Based on a New Story and Characters Designs from Creator Akira Toriyama, This Original Anime Series from the Dragon Ball Franchise Commemorates the 40th Anniversary of the Manga’s Serialization
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Akira Toriyama’s iconic *Dragon Ball* manga, Toei Animation is set to release a brand-new anime series titled *Dragon Ball DAIMA*.
The series will be available to stream with subtitles on Crunchyroll starting October 11, 2024, in multiple regions, including the United States, Canada, Latin America, India, Australia, and Southeast Asia. Fans can expect weekly simulcast episodes in sync with the Japanese broadcast.
*Dragon Ball DAIMA* introduces a fresh adventure in the Dragon Ball universe. In the series, Goku and his friends, due to a mysterious conspiracy, are shrunk to a smaller size and are thrown into the Demon Realm. Together with familiar faces like Supreme Kai and new characters Glorio and Panzy, they must navigate this new world. Directed by Yoshitaka Yashima (*Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revenge*) and Aya Komaki (*One Piece*), the series also features animation character designs by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, with a scenario penned by Yuko Kakihara.
The series boasts an exciting musical collaboration as well. Grammy Award-winning artist Zedd has composed the opening theme song, “Jaka Jaan,” with support from singer-songwriter duo C&K, known for their work in *CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA*. The ending song, “NAKAMA,” will also be produced by Zedd and feature vocals by Japanese artist AI.
First revealed at New York Comic Con in 2023, *Dragon Ball DAIMA* was met with massive excitement from fans. This new addition to the *Dragon Ball* franchise honors the legacy of Akira Toriyama’s manga, which has sold over 260 million copies worldwide since its debut in *Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump* in 1984.
Toei Animation, the studio behind *Dragon Ball*, has a long history of success with the franchise, which has spanned six major anime series, including *Dragon Ball Z*, *Dragon Ball Super*, and *Dragon Ball GT*, along with 21 feature films and a range of games, merchandise, and more. The addition of *Dragon Ball DAIMA* marks another milestone in this enduring legacy.
Fans can follow updates on the official *Dragon Ball DAIMA* website and through the official *Dragon Ball* social media accounts for more information.
