From the acclaimed creators of BEASTARS and Star Wars: Visions, the highly anticipated steampunk adaptation Leviathan is now available for streaming on Netflix, complete with Japanese, English, and Hindi dubbed versions.
This anime series brings to life Scott Westerfeld’s beloved novels, plunging viewers into an alternate 1914 where bioengineered beasts clash with formidable mechanical war machines.
At the heart of this epic tale are a fugitive prince and a girl disguised as a boy, whose paths converge aboard a magnificent living airship. Their journey could very well alter the course of history in a world teetering on the brink of global conflict.
Leviathan is a groundbreaking collaboration between Qubic Pictures (Eden, Star Wars: Visions Seasons 1 & 3) and Studio Orange (BEASTARS, Trigun Stampede). The series masterfully blends Western storytelling with the dynamic artistry of Japanese animation, delivering a truly unique globe-spanning war epic.
Helming the adaptation is Director Christophe Ferreira, with a story by Yuichiro Kido. The show boasts an all-star technical team, including CG Chief Director Eiji Inomoto, music by Nobuko Toda & Kazuma Jinnouchi, and original songs by the legendary Joe Hisaishi, including the opening “Paths Combine” and the haunting ending theme “The Sky Ahead” featuring Diana Garnet.
Character design is led by Ayumi Kurashima, with creature designs by Lē Yamamura, mechanical designs by Takehiko Hoashi and Shinobu Tsuneki, and art direction by Tadashi Nakajima.
Author Scott Westerfeld shared his excitement about the adaptation:
“It’s been wonderful to work so closely with Studio Orange and Qubic on this adaptation of Leviathan. Series illustrator Keith Thompson and I have loved watching another layer added to our already weird creation. Walking tanks and flying whales, brought to life with the dynamism of state-of-the-art anime!”
